General questions

The ticket costs 49 euros a month.

Advance booking for the hvv Deutschlandticket starts on 03.04.2023 and you can buy it most conveniently in the hvv switch App. The hvv Deutschlandticket can also be purchased online at www.hvv-deutschlandticket.de and in all our service centres.

The ticket will appear in the hvv switch App from the start of the all-year subscription on 01.05.2023 as a valid entitlement to travel. New:

If you have ordered a chipcard online or in a service centre, this will be sent to you by post. If it is not possible to deliver it by post before 01.05.2023, a starter ticket will be made available to you before then. If you have ordered your ticket online, you will under normal circumstances get your starter ticket sent to you directly after completing the order on the confirmation screen and additionally by email. If further processing of your order is necessary, this may however take up to two working days.

Starting on 01.05.2023.

The Deutschlandticket is valid countrywide on regional and local public transport services in 2nd class. It is not valid on long-distance services (ICE, IC, EC) and for journeys in 1st class.

On the hvv, all buses, U-, S- and AKN-Bahn trains, regional trains and harbour ferries can be used.

The Deutschlandticket is an all-year season ticket which you can cancel monthly. It is valid for one calendar month at a time and can be used without any time restrictions. It is extended on a monthly basis unless it is cancelled up to the 10th of the current month.

The new ticket is only valid for one person. Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge as before. Children under 6 continue to travel free of charge. The hvv Deutschlandticket is only valid together with a photo ID.

If you buy an additional Weekend+ ticket for € 15, 1 person and 3 children (aged 6-14) can accompany you on the entire hvv network free of charge on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays as well as on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. This Weekend+ Ticket is valid for one calendar month at a time and is available in the App, at ticket machines or in any service centre.

No, the ticket is not transferable.

The hvv Deutschlandticket is restricted to one person and is only valid in combination with some form of photo ID. Children aged 6 to 14 should also  have a photo ID with them when they travel (e.g. a school student card, an identity card, a child’s ID, a health insurance card). A copy of such a card may also be carried.

Children under 6 travel free of charge as before.

No, the hvv Deutschlandticket is only valid in 2nd class. To travel in 1st class carriages on the hvv, you need to buy an additional upgrade ticket for 1st class. This costs € 2.40 for a single journey in hvv fare rings A-F or € 47.20 on the entire hvv network as a monthly upgrade.

The 1st class upgrade ticket bought on the hvv is only valid on hvv services. Additional options to use the 1st class may be available in the various regional public transport associations.

Bicycles can only be taken on board free of charge in the hvv on rapid transit trains (U-Bahn, S-Bahn, AKN) as well as on many bus lines Mon – Fri before 6 am, 9 am – 4 pm and from 6 pm, on weekends and public holidays all day, as well as at any time on the harbour ferries (Lines 61–75). There is a reasonably priced day bicycle ticket for €3.50 to take a bike on RB/RE trains in hvv fare rings A – F.

Is a day bicycle ticket I buy on the hvv valid all over Germany?

The day bicycle ticket you buy on the hvv is only valid to take a bike on board regional trains in hvv fare rings A-F.

There are different rules concerning taking your dog with you outside the hvv. There are no countrywide rules about taking along dogs on the Deutschlandticket.

The electronic verifiability on the hvv is guaranteed. In addition, it will be ensured that your right to travel will be accepted all over Germany.

That is stipulated by the Federal Government. The hvv Deutschlandticket is only available as a digital ticket on a smartphone via an App or on a chipcard. Customers who do not have a smartphone or internet access can buy the hvv Deutschlandticket in a service centre.

No problem – order here now online and pay by SEPA direct debit.

Do you have any more questions? You can find all you need to know about price reductions for the hvv Deutschlandticket here: Reduced-price tickets

You already have an all-year season ticket?

Then you can find all the relevant information in our FAQ's for all-year season ticket  and ProfiTicket. holders.

If you buy the hvv Deutschlandticket on your smartphone via the switch App, then you can travel from your selected validity date. If you get your Dhvv eutschlandticket on a chipcard, you can travel with a starter ticket until you receive your chipcard. It takes about two days after you order the hvv Deutschlandticket online till you get the starter ticket online and you can then print it out. If you want to use the hvv Deutschlandticket from 01.05. it would therefore be best to order it beforehand (this is possible from 03.04.) or to buy it directly in the hvv switch App.

No.

Customers who want to get their Deutschlandticket on their smartphone can currently only do this in the hvv switch App. This is a very good fit for the new Deutschlandticket as regards its structure and background system. At the same time the hvv switch App also offers complementary mobility options.

That said, after you have logged in to the hvv switch App and bought it there, the Deutschlandticket will also be displayed under “Tickets” in the hvv App.

The ticket range offered by the hvv has been thoroughly redesigned with the introduction of the Deutschlandticket.

Existing all-year season tickets which cost more than 49 euros a month will be automatically switched over to the Deutschlandticket at a price of € 49 a month as of 01.05.2023. All our existing clients will be informed in good time and do not need to do anything themselves.

Yes. Single or day tickets, the weekly season ticket for the entire hvv network for € 29 and the monthly season ticket for the entire hvv network for € 69 can be bought just as before in the hvv Online Shop, in the hvv switch-App, in the hvv App as well as at ticket machines.

It is not possible to get a Deutschlandticket without a payment medium on which the price can be drawn (e.g. a bank account or a credit card), since the ticket may only be issued all over Germany according to the stipulations from the Government as an all-year season ticket. However the hvv is offering new, reduced-price weekly and monthly tickets. These can be bought in hvv service centres, at ticket machines and of course also online and are valid on the entire hvv network. The weekly ticket costs 29 euros and the monthly ticket 69 euros. Both tickets are valid on the entire hvv network and cost less than the weekly and monthly tickets for Hamburg AB which were available up to now. To compare: a monthly season ticket for Hamburg AB previously cost 118.20 euros, one for the entire hvv network even 262 euros. The social discount of 30 euros is also applicable to the new monthly ticket, so that you can then get full mobility on the entire hvv network for 39 euros a month.

The additional monthly upgrade ticket for 1st class (47,20 €) and the additional Weekend+ ticket for taking along other persons (15 €) will be available from May in the hvv switch App, the hvv App, in the Online Shop or at ticket machines and in the service centres. This is then valid on hvv services for the calendar month in which it is bought. It will not be automatically renewed and needs to be bought again if you need it.

A ticket you have ordered can still be cancelled as long as its period of validity has not yet started, provided that it has not yet been paid for and generated. A ticket can be cancelled using the „Cancel” button on "Dein Deutschlandticket" in the hvv switch App.

If you have ordered your ticket in the customer portal or in a hvv service centre, get in touch with or Customer Service at kundenservice@hochbahn.de. If it is no longer possible to cancel the ticket, you will need to cancel the subscription.

Yes, the additional monthly upgrade ticket for 1st class (47,20 €) and the additional Weekend+ ticket for taking along other persons (15 €) will be available from May in the hvv switch App, the hvv App, in the Online Shop or at ticket machines and in the service centres. This is then valid on hvv services for the calendar month in which it is bought. It will not be automatically renewed and needs to be bought again if you need it.

The hvv Deutschlandticket can be cancelled monthly up to the 10th of the current month. There will be a menu to do this in the hvv switch App. If you have your Deutschlandticket on a chipcard, you can cancel it at online customer portal (meinhvv)  or in a hvv service centre.

I already have an all-year season ticket/ProfiTicket

Existing all-year season tickets which cost more than 49 euros a month will be automatically switched over to the Deutschlandticket at a price of € 49 as of 01.05.2023. All our existing clients will be informed in good time and do not need to do anything themselves. Your current hvv Card remains valid and counts as of 01.05.2023 as a Deutschlandticket and thus is valid on regional and local services all over Germany.

All-year season tickets which cost less than 49 euros a month, with the exception of tickets for school children, will be discontinued. The validity of tickets for existing clients will however be maintained till the end of August.  Of course, you have the option to switch to a Deutschlandticket in your meinhvv client account at hvv.de.

Yes, if it includes more than 3 fare zones. From the area of validity Hamburg AB upwards, it will automatically be switched over to the Deutschlandticket.

If it includes 3 fare zones or less, the price is less than € 49. For that reason the rules applying up to now will continue (i.e., restriction to the previous area and times of validity) till 31.08. All-year subscriptions which cost less than € 49,with the exception of school passes,  will then be discontinued. Customers who have an all-year season ticket which costs less than € 49 will continue to pay the same price as before until 31.08.2023. Of course, you have the option to switch to a Deutschlandticket in your meinhvv client account at hvv.de.

If it has not already been done, your company will inform you about the switchover to the digital ProfiTicket and you will receive a link or a QR code for this. After that, the ProfiTicket can be saved to the wallet or as a webticket. If you have the digital ProfiTicket on your smartphone at the start of the Deutschlandticket on 01.05.2023, you don’t need to do anything else.

If you don’t possess a smartphone, you of course nevertheless have the option to get the hvv Deutschlandticket issued on an alternative medium. In the hvv, for instance, you can get the hvv Deutschlandticket as an all-year season ticket from Hamburger Hochbahn AG issued on a hvv Card as an alternative (online under hvv-deutschlandticket.de or in one of our service centres). If this applies to you, we would ask you to approach your employer and to ask them whether it would be possible to pay a direct mobility allowance via your salary account.

If the area of validity you had up to now still appears in your meinhvv account, this means that the system has not yet been updated. The hvv Card is nevertheless valid as a Deutschlandticket on local and regional services (2nd class) all over Germany.

Due to the conditions stipulated for the ticket by the government, which apply all over Germany, the rules about taking other people with you which previously applied on hvv services are unfortunately no longer possible with the hvv Deutschlandticket. All in all, however, the hvv Deutschlandticket, which will be valid for travel on local and regional services all over Germany as of 01.05., represents considerable extra value for money as well as offering a substantial saving to most of our existing customers.

If you buy an additional Weekend + ticket as a top-up  to your season ticket for € 15 in the App, at ticket machines or in any service centre, 1 person and 3 children (aged 6-14) can accompany you on the entire hvv network free of charge on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays as well as on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. This Weekend+ Ticket is valid for one calendar month at a time.

When the hvv Deutschlandticket is introduced, the rules about taking bikes and dogs on board on the entire hvv network will stay the same as they were.

In a few months it will only be possible by a few clicks to transfer the all-year season ticket from the hvv Card to your smartphone.

There is no need for an extraordinary right of cancellation If your all-year season ticket costs more than € 40, it will be automatically switched over to the Deutschlandticket. That means that you can travel on local public transport all over Germany more cheaply as of 01.05.2023 and y0u only pay € 49.

If your all-year season ticket costs less than € 49, you will continue to pay the same price for now. But you have the option as of 01.05, 2023 to switch to a Deutschlandticket in your meinhvv client account at hvv.de.

If you have a 3-zone off-peak all-year season ticket and the social discount, you have the option to cancel your subscription as per 30.04.2023 without having to pay an adjustment charge.

There will be a new design for the hvv Card when the Deutschlandticket starts. All existing clients who already have a hvv Card (with an all-year season ticket) and do not want to  transfer this later to the hvv switch App will be provided with a new Card in the course of the year. Your hvv Card with a photo stays valid as of 01.05.2023 as your Deutschlandticket provided you have not cancelled.

Digital ProfiTicket

The hvv Deutschlandticket is valid for as long as your all-year subscription exists. Unlike the former ProfiTicket, it issued monthly. The ticket is automatically renewed as a webticket or in the electronic wallet after the month currently displayed expires.

The right to take other persons along is not envisaged due to the countrywide terms and conditions for the Deutschlandticket. All in all, the Deutschlandticket, valid on local and regional services as of 01.05.2023 all over Germany, is a considerable advantage and for the majority of our existing clients it represents a significant cost saving.

If you buy an additional ticket for € 15, in the App, at ticket machines or in any service centre,  1 person and 3 children (aged 6-14) can accompany you on the entire hvv network free of charge on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays as well as on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. This additional Weekend+ Ticket is valid for one calendar month at a time.

With the introduction of the hvv Deutschlandticket, the rules on taking bikes and dogs on board on the entire hvv network stay the same as before.

Depending on your operating system (Android or Apple iOS) or the type of storage  (electronic wallet or webticket), there are a number of ways to update the ticket.

Android

Android users are recommended to use the Google Wallet. As soon as the Google Wallet has been uploaded to your smartphone the QR code can be scanned. Alternatively, the link from your employer can be used again to save the ticket to the wallet. Then it will be automatically updated every month.
If you use the Stocard App, you need to call up the QR code or link from your employer and save the ticket again. Important: you need to repeat this every month.

Apple iOS

Your personal settings on your iPhone might be preventing the update. In this context, you should check the flight and sleep modes and set the “Automatic updates” button in the Wallet App accordingly. You can find the option by clicking on the three-dot icon and then under “card details”

A little tip: Sometimes it can help to switch the “Automatic updates” button off and the on again.

Webticket

If the old (expired) ticket is still shown when you call up your ticket, the button „Back“  at the bottom at the end of the website may be able to help. The next screen should then show the current ticket, which you can then click on. It may take a moment before the new ticket is loaded.

You need to use the email address which is available on the smartphone you want to use the ticket with.

No, please save the email. If you should lose your smartphone, you can then download the ticket again using the link.

You don’t need a meinhvv account for the upgrade to a digital ProfiTicket as a hvv Deutschlandticket. You can access the Abo Portal via the link or QR code you get from your employer. Every user can administrate their ticket there. You can still buy single and day tickets, monthly and weekly season tickets as well as upgrade, additional and supplementary tickets in the hvv App.

When you open the link or scan the QR code from your employer the login page in the Abo Portal will open. By clicking here on „Password forgotten?“ you can reset the old password and create a new one.

A QR code is a pattern of lines which will take you to a specific internet website when you scan it.

There are two ways. Either the recognition of the QR code is already in the camera as an automatic setting. After scanning the code, a prompt will appear telling you how to open the code. Or it can help to install an app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store (this is mostly the case with old phone models or operating system versions).

A webticket is displayed directly in your browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Firefox) and can be saved to the start screen of your smartphone. Please note that a webticket can only be displayed if you have an active internet connection. For that reason we recommend saving it in a so-called electronic “wallet”.

When you click on the link to the upgrade/digital ProfiTicket as a hvv Deutschlandticket, this will open as a webticket in the browser. The ticket displayed there can be saved as a bookmark ( with the icon on the start screen of the smartphone). By clicking on the browser settings (Android) or the „Share” symbol  (Apple iOS) the page can be added to the start screen/home screen. It can then be quickly accessed as long as you have an active internet connection.

An (electronic) wallet is a place where you store digital tickets, such as e.g.  boarding cards, tickets for local public transport or concert tickets.

How do I install a wallet?

A wallet is pre-installed as standard on many smartphones e.g. on iPhones. For Android smartphones there are several wallet apps which can be used. We recommend the Google Wallet, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store.

How do I call the wallet up?

Like any other app, the wallet can be found on your start screen or home screen or in the menu (App Drawer) .
How does the ticket get into the wallet?
After you apply for the upgrade/digital ProfiTicket as a hvv Deutschlandticket,  you will find the prompt “Download to Apple Wallet“ or ”Download to Google Wallet” under the valid ticket. For this, of course, you need to have a wallet installed on your phone. The import of the ticket is organized slightly differently on each wallet, so please read the individual instructions carefully.

I already have the ticket in a wallet app for Android or as a webticket. How can I save it in the Google Wallet / Pay if I want to later?

If your ticket is already saved in the Stocard Wallet or another wallet app for Android and you want to transfer it to the Google Wallet, this  can be done by simply scanning the QR code or using the link from your employer again. The ticket will then be displayed in your browser. The button „Add to Google Wallet“ can be found at the bottom of the page.

The ticket can be downloaded again by clicking on the link in the confirmation email.

See: „What happens if I lose my smartphone?“

Alternatively, your wallet may be synchronized in a cloud and the ticket will be transferred to the new smartphone.

If you don’t know your personnel number, please ask in the HR department of your company.

Our tip: In most cases, the number is also on your pay slip.

If you leave your job in the company where you are currently working, you first of all need to cancel your ticket in the Abo Portal as well. When you start your new job, you can apply for the ticket via your new employer. For this, you need a new QR code or link from your new company. As long as you previously used your private email address for the login details (email address and password) and this is still active, you can log in to the Abo Portal with the old access data.

Changing old ways of doing things is never easy and not everyone is able to use a ticket on a smartphone.  Nevertheless, more than 90 percent of people in Germany over 14 years of age meanwhile use a smartphone* and it is not difficult to use a digital ticket.

If you don’t have a smartphone, the hvv Deutschlandticket can also be issued on an alternative medium. In the hvv, you can buy the hvv Deutschlandticket e.g. as a 24/7 all-year season ticket from Hamburger Hochbahn AG (online at hvv-deutschlandticket.de or in a service centre) on a chipcard.

No, the ticket can be used independently of the hvv App and is stored in the electronic wallet or as a digital ticket. You don’t need the hvv App for that. The hvv Deutschlandticket is not stored in the hvv App and cannot be displayed there, since the hvv App does not at the moment have the technically necessary functions for the digital hvv Deutschlandticket.

The hvv Deutschlandticket is valid for as long as your all-year subscription exists. The ticket is automatically renewed as a webticket or in the electronic wallet after the month currently displayed expires.

In any case you need to show your proof of entitlement for the social discount in the service centre.

A retroactive refund for a ticket you have already used in the hvv switch App is unfortunately not possible.

About the hvv switch-App

To run the hvv switch App you need at least iOS 14 or Android 8.0 and higher.

After you have successfully registered, the App will help you navigate the buying process  and will ask necessary prerequisites such as e.g. your full name and the means of payment you wish to use (PayPal or credit card. This is why you should confirm your email address within 7 days.

If you have a mobility budget (this is offered by employees and companies which are participants), you can of course claim for this in the hvv switch App.

Your ticket is valid from the date you choose. The countdown which runs for 90 seconds directly after the purchase clearly signals in a ticket inspection whether the ticket was purchased before you entered the area where you have to have a ticket.

You cannot only pay with a classic credit card or via Paypal, but also by debit card. Many banks and savings banks meanwhile automatically issue a MasterCard or Visa debit card with your current account. Further payment options are in preparation.

You can recognize a modern debit card by the MasterCard or Visa logo on the card - older Maestro cards with the red and blue logo are not storable.
