The HVV Card is your personal travel pass, on which your HVV tickets are stored.

Your electronic personal travel pass is not only the data carrier medium for your ticket, but can also be used as a means of payment.
Important: in order to use the purchase function on your HVV Card, you need to have it activated at a service centre with HVV-Card services. To do this, you need to fill out a written application including a direct debit mandate. As soon as this has been added to your account contract, you will receive written confirmation from your contract partner. After that, you can have the purchase function entered on your HVV Card in any of our service centres.
Buying tickets at the ticket machine
After selecting the ticket you want, simply hold the HVV Card against the highlighted area on the ticket machine (1,25 MB) or slide the Card into the card reader of the machine. Then your travel pass will be recognized and the ticket automatically stored on it.
Buying tickets on the bus
Buses have card readers with the purchase function at the doors where you enter the bus.
Payment for your purchases is settled once a month. The fare price (including a 3 % discount on some ticket types) is debited directly from your bank account.
If you want to travel outside the time or area restrictions on your HVV all-year season ticket, you can buy additional tickets as needed. For this, it is necessary to include the purchase function in your account contract.
Important: in order to buy tickets with your HVV Card, you need to make an application to have the purchase function added to it and activated at a service centre with HVV Card Service. To do this, you need to fill out a written application including a direct debit mandate. The filled out written application should then be sent to the relevant all-year season ticket office. You will then receive a letter with which you can have the purchase function entered on your HVV Card in any of our service centres.
You can buy tickets with the HVV Card at any ticket machine equipped with the necessary software, on buses as well as in service centres with HVV-Card services. You can recognize the ticket machines (1,25 MB) with the necessary software by the red sticker on them or by this symbol:
Unfortunately you cannot use the HVV Card to buy tickets online.
The ticket needs to be saved onto your travel pass, but in most cases the technical infrastructure for doing this is simply not available on home PCs.
You can use the HVV Card to buy single, day and supplementary tickets as well as weekly and monthly season tickets.
Important: in order to use the purchase function on your HVV Card, you need to make an application and have it activated at a service centre with HVV Card Service.
Good to know: you get 3 % off when you buy single, day and supplementary tickets.
In order to make changes to the details of your all-year season ticket e.g. the fare zones, areas or upgrades, make an application as before in a service centre with HVV Card Service. You will then receive a confirmation letter asking you to update your HVV Card at a ticket machine (1,25 MB) or in a service centre with HVV Card Service.
To do this, simply use the ticket machines (1,25 MB) with HVV Card function. Just hold your HVV Card against the screen and select HVV Card Service. Then you can see the last 8 tickets stored on the Card.
Alternatively, you can view, download or print out a detailed list of your purchases or your invoices as well as weekly and monthly season tickets via your MeinHVV customer account (protected by password).
If you are not yet registered on MeinHVV, you can do this free of charge. Please confirm (“activate”) your account after registration by clicking on the link in the confirmation email you will receive (if you do not do this, the registration will be automatically deleted after a few days). Then you can set up your online access parameters in order to access the data on your HVV Card.
Sorry! It is not possible to buy further tickets for others accompanying you and to store them on your HVV Card.
The normal rules for day and group tickets about taking other people with you apply, however. If you are one of the people in the group, this means that you as a HVV Card holder can take 3 children (with a day ticket) and with a group ticket up to 4 further persons with you.
Please just show him your HVV Card. This will be checked using an electronic test device.
On the bus, this is done by holding your HVV Card against a terminal when you get on.
If you are an all-year season ticket holder or have a season ticket stored on your HVV Card, but do not have it with you, just tell the inspector. They will then issue you with a demand to pay a penalty fare of €60. If you show your ticket at a service centre afterwards (within the period stipulated in the Conditions of Carriage), however, you only need to pay a handling charge of €3.50.
Sorry! As with all of our digitized sales channels, this is not possible.
How is payment settled for tickets I purchase?
Currently we offer the options of payment by direct debit or by prepaid credit balance.
The easiest way to pay is by giving us a SEPA direct debit mandate. Your contract partner debits the entire fare money for the tickets you have bought during the month from your account at the end of each month (minus the 3 % discount on single, day and supplementary tickets) or charges it to your prepaid credit balance.
How does payment by prepaid credit balance work?
You can buy single and day tickets with your prepaid credit balance. You can apply for payment by prepaid credit balance at all service centres with HVV Card Service. You will receive confirmation by post and the relevant bank details. As the next step, you first need to send a minimum starting amount of at least €40 by bank transfer to your contract partner (given in the confirmation letter). After receipt of payment by them, you can buy tickets. The costs for this will then be set off against your credit balance.
Cash payment is currently not possible.
If you are an all-year season ticket holder, you can see the invoice amounts from your monthly account statement and the regular amount for your ticket debited from it, which stays the same.
For individual purchases, you can view, store locally or print out a detailed list of your purchases or your invoices via your MeinHVV customer account (protected by password). In this overview of your purchases you can see a list of all the tickets you have purchased, quoting the price without the discount.
If you already have a MeinHVV account, but are still unable to see your data, please log on to MeinHVV and set up your online access parameters (German only). You only need to do this once. If you are not yet registered with MeinHVV, you can do this free of charge.
Please confirm (“activate”) your account after registration by clicking on the link in the confirmation email you will receive (if you do not do this, the registration will be automatically deleted after a few days). Then you can set up your online access parameters in order to access the data on your HVV Card.
If you have been unable to use your all-year season ticket because you were confined to bed or ill or needed to go to a medically prescribed health cure or were in quarantine for longer than 21 days, we will refund you the fare money for that period if you send us a certificate proving this.
The medical certificate must clearly state that you were unable to use public transport as a result of your illness or health cure. Please use our pre-printed form for this, which is available at all service centres with HVV-Card services, and attach an individual medical certificate from your doctor.
We will be happy to send you your monthly invoice (for purchases of single, day and weekly tickets and monthly season tickets) by post to your home address against a handling charge of €1.50 per invoice.
If your Card has been stolen
If the Card has been stolen, please report it to the police. The police file number is needed for processing the case in the HVV service centre. After that please notify us without delay of the theft so that we can block your HVV Card. This is done at a service centre with HVV-Card services or by phone call to your contract partner. Outside office hours, please ring our Infoline under 040/19 449. As soon as you have notified the theft, you can no longer be made responsible for possible misuse of the Card.

Ordering a replacement Card
You can also automatically notify the loss to us by ordering a replacement Card. To do this, log on to MeinHVV and select the link “Overview of contract HVV Card” > Replacement Card”. When you order a replacement Card, the one you lost is automatically blocked. If you did not agree to us storing your photo when you applied for a HVV Card, you will need to upload a photo for the replacement Card to your MeinHVV client account.
Alternatively, you can also have this done at the service centres with HVV-Card services or by phone call to your contract partner. Outside office hours, please ring our Infoline under 040/19 449. When you do this, please have your customer number ready. You can find this in the contract documents which were sent to you together with your HVV Card. The new HVV Card will then be sent to you by post within the next 7 days.
Provisional ticket for all-year season ticket holders
A print-it-yourself temporary replacement Card can be issued for all-year season ticket holders. This will be offered when you order a replacement Card via MeinHVV. The charge for the replacement Card via MeinHVV is 5 €. In the service centres there is a handling charge of 15 €. To do this, log on to MeinHVV and select “Overview of contract HVV Card”. You will find the link > Replacement Card” there. Or just drop in to one of our service centres with HVV Service.
If you find your HVV Card again, you can cut it into pieces and dispose of it with the normal household rubbish.
The HVV card is your personal travel pass with a photo and is your proof that you are the HVV Card or ticket holder when a ticket inspector asks to see it. That is why it is not transferable.
To change your name, please bring along an official document as evidence to one of our service centres with HVV-Card services (e.g. a marriage certificate, an ID with the new name).
If your address has changed, you only need to notify us by post, fax or email by the 5th of the month preceding the change. In this case, please get in touch with your contract partner.
The HVV Card is designed to only have the minimum information necessary stored on it. This is the Card number, tickets you have purchased or apprentice, student or similar entitlement information.
It goes without saying that we will treat your data confidentially. Your data is also protected by secure data transfer procedures.

There is no credit balance stored on the HVV Card itself. That means that you cannot lose money if the Card is lost or stolen. On top of this, since the Card is personalised with your photo on it, it is difficult for third persons to use it.
As soon as you have notified the loss or theft of your HVV Card at one of our service centres with HVV-Card services or via the hotline, it will be blocked, so that third persons can no longer use it.
Tip during coronavirus restrictions:
due to the current situation, you can simply pause your all-year season ticket subscription instead of cancelling it. You can find how to do this in our FAQ on Coronavirus (german only).
Of course, we wouldn’t like to lose you as a client, but you can cancel your subscription for an all-year season ticket to the end of any month:
Your all-year season ticket will then be cancelled to the next possible date and deactivated on your HVV Card.
If you cancel your subscription within the first 12 months, you only need to pay the difference between the price for a monthly and an all-year season ticket for the months you have travelled on it.
If you cancel at very short notice, the fare price due for that month may still be debited from your account. The excess fare price will be reimbursed to you by the first working day of the following month.
Although you may have cancelled your all-year season ticket, you can still use your HVV Card to purchase single, day, weekly and monthly tickets if your HVV Card has the purchase function on it. If you do not have this function on your Card yet, you can have it activated free of charge in the service centre by filling out an order form.
If you do not want to use your HVV Card any longer, you can cancel it in writing at any time giving notice to the end of the month to your contract partner.
Some HVV Cards actually survive being washed in the washing machine!
Our tip: in order to avoid unpleasant surprise, e.g. when a ticket inspector checks your Card, go into service centres with HVV Card Service or to a ticket machine (1,25 MB) equipped with the necessary software and check whether the Card is still working.
If the Card is defective you can order a replacement Card at a service centre. Please bring the defective Card with you.
Please cut it into pieces and dispose of it with the normal household rubbish. That way, you make sure that no-one can misuse it.

Students who have still not received their SemesterTicket when the semester starts should get in touch with the student secretariat of their place of higher education. Please remember however that you need to have a valid ticket to travel on HVV services at all times.
Just as up to now, you can present your entitlement form for the social discount in one of our service centres. It is unfortunately not possible at the moment for all of our service centres to offer this service. Please contact your contract partner to find out which service centres you can visit to have the entitlement written onto your HVV Card.
The status will be entered there on your existing or new HVV Card. You can then use this entitlement to purchase reduced-price tickets.
Tickets for students are heavily subsidized by the public purse. For this reason the HVV needs to have the economic neediness of students from outside Hamburg doing, for instance, a prescribed internship as part of their course, verified. They can do this by presenting their internship contract, which should include among other items the amount of their remuneration. The verifying authority and contact point for this is the Hamburg students’ union Studierendenwerk Hamburg.
The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees is a new budget offer ticket for apprentices/trainees travelling in Hamburg. The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees will be available as of 1 August 2020 and is valid for valid for 2nd Class travel on the entire network.

The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees is offered at a price of 70 €. Of this, the apprentice/trainee pays 30 €, the employer 20 € and the subsidy from the City of Hamburg is 20 €. In the case of apprentices/trainees in school-based vocational training, the subsidy from the City of Hamburg is 40 € (since there is no subsidy from an employer).
The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees is valid for 2nd Class travel /without Sprinter buses in the entire HVV network (fare rings A-H).
In order to use the Sprinter buses or 1st Class on the trains you need a ticket including the 1st Class upgrade or you need to buy a separate upgrade ticket each time you use them.
Yes. The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees is only available as an all-year season ticket and under the Corporate Client Subscription programme (ProfiTicket), not as a monthly season ticket.
The separate order forms for the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees will be sent to you by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce/Crafts and Trade (whichever applies in your case) in the case of a dual training programme with a company (sandwich course) beginning in calendar week 27 (29.6 - 03.07.2020), or are available in the school secretariat of the training schools or training institutions (in the case of a school-based training programme). If you do not receive the order form, this can also be obtained from our service centres from calendar week 28 on (06.07. – 10.07.2020).
If your employer offers the ProfiTicket, the apprentice/trainee should speak to the ProfiTicket contact person in their company. If you have any questions about how to fill out the order form, please call the HVV Hotline under 040/19 449.
Eligible persons receiving remuneration under an apprenticeship/trainee programme should apply for the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees with a separate all-year season ticket order form (this is available in all HVV service centres, from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce/Crafts and Trade (whichever applies in your case) and in all school secretariats of the training schools or training institutions) and a HVV entitlement form. In this procedure, the employer must be entered as payer in the all-year season ticket order form and fill out a direct debit mandate. This direct debit mandate covers the apprentice/trainee’s share (30 €) and the employer subsidy (20 €). The employer can then collect the apprentice/trainee’s share (30 €) from him/her. The subsidy from the City of Hamburg (20 €) will be paid directly. The order form and the entitlement form must be validated by the employer.
Eligible persons without remuneration under an apprenticeship/trainee programme (e.g., those on a school-based programme or studying for a professional qualification) should also apply for the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees using the separate all-year season ticket order form and the entitlement form, but enter themselves as payer of their fare money (30 €). In these cases, the employer subsidy is also paid by the City of Hamburg. The order form and the entitlement form must be validated in this case by the school or training institution in question.
If the employer offers the ProfiTicket, the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees can be ordered directly (without the all-year season ticket order form) via their employer.
The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees can only be purchased for full calendar months for the periods stipulated by the all-year season ticket subscription and the Corporate Client Subscription programme and with a trainee programme covering these periods.
The BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees must be ordered by the 10th of the month preceding the period it is to be valid for (e.g., 10 April if its validity begins on 1 May).
Yes. You will need the normal proof of eligibility on the pre-printed paper entitlement form for the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees too. It is unfortunately not enough at the moment to simply present a trainee card (AZUBICARD), if you have one.
If you already have an all-year season ticket for apprentices/trainees or school students, you can cancel this on the separate order form for the BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees. If you are switching to the Corporate Client Subscription programme (ProfiTicket), the existing contract will be cancelled as before.
The regulations governing the subsidies you can get by presenting the Sozialkarte stay the same.
If you change your school or place of training, you can order a new BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees without giving notice. If you break off your vocational training programme, the ticket must be cancelled.
In the case of short periods of illness, there is no refund. If you are ill for a longer time, the rules set out in the Conditions of Use for the HVV all-year season ticket apply. Any refund is subject to the HVV Conditions of Carriage.
If you lose your BonusTicket for apprentices/trainees or it is stolen, you must apply for a replacement ticket. The charge for ordering this online is 5 € and in a service centre 15 €. In the case of those receiving remuneration under an apprenticeship/trainee programme with the employer as payer, the charge will be debited there, and the apprentice/trainee must reimburse them. In the case of the ProfiTicket, please ask the employer what the charge for a replacement ticket is.
